Tecno Spark 3 Vs Spark 3 Pro Comparison

Tecno launched two devices in the Spark series early this month – there’s the Spark 3 and the Spark 3 Pro both of which have been selling for a few weeks now.

We have interacted with both devices and as we have mentioned in all previous articles the two devices are just the same, not big difference apart from just the storage capacity. The recommended retail price the Spark 3 Pro is Ksh.12,500 while its sibling the Spark 3 selling at Ksh.11,000. Again these prices can vary depending on where you purchase the device.  I have seen some vendors having different prices on e-commerce platforms like Jumia.

So apart from the difference we mentioned above, how else do the two devices compare? First, let’s look at the specs below.

From the specs above you can tell the two phones have a lot in common apart from the internal storage. The Spark 3 Pro comes with 32GB ROM while the SPARK 3 comes with just 16GB ROM. That said, how do you decide which Spark 3 Phone to buy? Would you top up the extra Ksh.15,000 for the pro variant or just stick to the Spark 3?

Well, the two phones share the same design although the plastic back on the Spark 3 is removable, this is not the same case with the Spark 3 Pro which offers a more premium design with a polycarbonate unibody. The plastic cover on the Spark 3 actually covers the microSD card and SIM slots.

The speaker, Charging Port,  Microphone and Headphone Jack on the Spark 3 Pro are all at the bottom. The top is completely empty. The Spark 3 bottom only features the charging port. The top is where you have the headphone jack while the speakers are at the back

The volume and power rocker buttons on the Spark 3 Pro are all on the right side while the opposite side houses separate slots for the two SIM cards and microSD card. Remember as I had earlier noted to access the Spark 3 microSD card and SIM slots you have to remove back.

Both phones run on Android Pie but the reason I would go with the pro version here is because it was listed as being one of the first 15 devices that should be getting Android Q Beta. Well, this is huge for Tecno as a company.

Nothing much to say about the storage but I need to mention that both give you an option to expand it using a microSD. If you already got yourself a Spark 3 then you need to worry about this then.

In terms of network, Spark 3 can only connect to 3G networks, which is a bit disappointing. The Spark 3 Pro on the other has 4G connectivity.

Well, the two devices offer almost the same experience just that they target different people, those with a small budget and those willing to add some extra little cash to get the pro version. If it were me I would definitely go with the Pro version.
