TECNO Spark 3 Unboxing and Quick Thoughts

TECNO launched its third variation in the Spark series, the Spark 3 in Kenya early this month. The company launched two variants – the Spark 3 and the pro version, the Spark 3 Pro.

Both devices feature the same RAM with the difference just being the storage. The TECNO SPARK PRO comes with 32GB ROM while the SPARK 3 comes with 16GB ROM. We have written so much about the Spark 3 Pro including a full review, which you can read about here.  We have also managed to get a review unit of the Spark 3 which is what we will be unboxing in this article.

As I said, the difference between this device and the Pro variant is not that big. The design is almost the same, the specs as well apart from just the ROM. The Spark 3 borrows the same design we saw on the Camon 11 and we pointed this out in our Spark 3 Pro review.

The packaging is still the same, an orange box with the phones image and TECNO Spark 3 text splashed at the top. Inside the box, there’s the unit itself and the usual accessories which include: a Micro-USB Cable, a Charger, a pair of earphones, a sim ejector pin, a back cover a warranty card and some user manual.

The overall design is pretty impressive and you’re getting a 6.2” inch display with 1500 by 720-pixel resolution with the notch that houses the selfie camera, LED flash and other sensors. Again, if you don’t like notches, Tecno has given you an option of hiding it the settings. Again, the display is also very good, very sharp and clear.

The speaker, Charging Port, Microphone and Headphone Jack are all at the bottom. The volume and power rocker buttons are all on the right side while the opposite side houses separate slots for the two SIM cards and microSD card.

The back houses the dual 13MP and 2MP rear camera and the fingerprint scanner. Remember apart from the fingerprint scanner as a security feature you also have Face unlock on the Spark 3. (Check photos in the slide show below)

The Tecno Spark 3 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 512GB using a MicroSD card. A Quad-core MediaTek MT6761 processor is powering the device and also comes with 3500mAh of battery life which is pretty decent for the entire time we have put the device to test.

The Spark 3 is also an Android Pie device which is really impressive for a budget phone. Remember the pro version was listed as being one of the first 15 devices that should be getting Android Q Beta. Well, this is huge for Tecno as a company.

We will try to compare the Spark 3 with the Spark 3 Pro in the next few days so remember to follow or subscribe to our blog or newsletter to ensure you don’t miss out on that and other future updates.
