Absa Next brings payments, credit and financial visibility together for entrepreneurs managing business and personal needs

For many small business entrepreneurs, running a business is much more than just making sales, there is customer payments, supplier payments awaiting, employees salary and personal bills but the main challenge that most of them get is how they can manage the finances effectively once they get them.

The recently launched digital platform, Absa Next, is addressing that by bringing payments, savings, credit, investments, personal and business financial management into one digital ecosystem and is available to both Absa customers and non- customers.

In most situations, when it comes to business performance, it becomes too complex for an owner to know how it is performing, mainly because they use different channels to receive and send payments. Absa Next’s business proposition is designed to bring all the activities together; for instance, the business wallet includes features such as a business profile, QR payments, and visibility of income and expenses. This is notably relevant in circumstances where the business owner manages everything from supplies and payments to sales and even procurement.

This is also relevant because it minimizes some of the potential administrative friction surrounding most small businesses.

Absa Next is also making a difference when it comes to access to working capital, with the platform offering instant credit ranging from KSH 500 to KSH 1 million for personal and business needs, and the credit assessment can draw on financial behavior and other data.

Imagine a business owner receives a large order but doesn’t have enough money to purchase the stock needed, and the only option he will be left with is declining the offer due to that; now this is where digital credit becomes more than simply another loan product but a financial tool that shapes business decisions and growth.

Another significant matter for small businesses is how to separate the business from its owner; in simple terms, how can a business person be able to use the finances for his business separately from his own personal bills and see where the business is heading. Absa Next’s solution of bringing personal and business finances into the same digital relationship, while maintaining separate wallets, is therefore crucial, with the main benefit of being able to have great visibility of two different financial lives.

Furthermore, Absa Next is simplifying multi-app fatigue by consolidating everything into one platform. Instead of having mobile money, banking apps, digital lenders, SACCOs, and informal lending, Absa Next is acting as a broader financial hub that can allow users to link cards from Absa and other banks, manage both personal and business funds, and access services such as investments, payments, and credit.

Small businesses have become a significant sector in the Kenyan economy, but most of these businesses fail at some point due to limited administrative resources; therefore, platforms like Absa Next are becoming key to closing that financial gap by giving entrepreneurs better visibility of their transactions and access to financial services.

“Kenya has consistently demonstrated its ability to develop innovations that solve real customer challenges and influence financial services across the continent. Absa Next builds on that legacy. It is an innovation informed by Kenyan consumers, and one that has the potential to shape how we serve customers across Africa,” Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Absa Group Chief Executive for Personal and Private Banking.

Ultimately, Absa Next is representing a shift in how traditional banks approach businesses and simply providing entrepreneurs with a platform where they can keep and move money with clear visibility.
