Apple’s iOS 27 Plans Start Taking Shape Around Siri, Search and the Camera App

Apple is reportedly redesigning Siri, search and the Camera app as part of a broader iOS 27 software overhaul.

Apple is preparing another major redesign of the iPhone software experience, with iOS 27 expected to introduce a rebuilt Siri system, expanded AI search features and a more flexible Camera app for advanced users. The company is likely to present the software during its Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled for June 8.

The update appears to center on two areas where Apple has faced increasing pressure from rivals: artificial intelligence and user control. Internal changes under development reportedly affect core parts of iOS, including search, photography tools, navigation layouts and system animations.

One of the clearest examples is the Camera app. Apple is said to be replacing its largely fixed interface with a setup that allows users to choose which controls remain visible while shooting. Photography settings that previously required extra taps could instead remain permanently accessible depending on user preference.

iPhone owners may be able to customize controls tied to flash settings, image resolution, timers and exposure. Separate shooting modes are also expected to support different layouts.

The move reflects a broader attempt to make the iPhone more adaptable for creators and experienced users without abandoning Apple’s simplified default interface. Users who prefer the existing layout are expected to keep it unchanged, while others may switch to a denser arrangement with manual tools and additional controls.

Apple is also preparing a wider transformation of Siri as generative AI becomes central to smartphone software competition. The assistant is reportedly being redesigned around persistent conversations and contextual requests instead of isolated voice commands.

Under the reported system, Siri would operate more like a conversational chatbot capable of interacting with apps, surfacing personal information and handling follow-up instructions within the same interaction.

The company is also expected to make Siri more visible across the operating system. A redesigned search layer connected to the Dynamic Island interface may combine traditional device search with AI-assisted responses through a single entry point.

Users may also gain the option to route searches through external AI platforms including ChatGPT or Gemini. Apple has reportedly been testing broader web-search functionality as part of Siri’s evolution beyond basic assistant tasks.

A standalone Siri application is also said to be in development. The app could preserve previous conversations, support file uploads and provide a dedicated interface for longer exchanges.

Beyond Siri and the Camera app, Apple is reportedly adjusting several built-in applications as part of the iOS 27 rollout. Safari may receive a cleaner homepage structure intended to improve access to browsing history, reading lists and saved pages.

Weather is also expected to surface additional environmental data directly from the main interface, reducing the need to navigate through multiple screens.

Apple’s Image Playground software, which focuses on AI-generated images, is reportedly being redesigned with fewer on-screen controls and updated image-generation models designed to improve realism.

The software refresh extends into broader interface behavior across iOS. Reports indicate Apple is modifying tab placement, keyboard animations and navigation behavior inside apps including TV, Music, Podcasts and News.

The planned release arrives during a period of intensified competition in mobile AI software. Google recently introduced new Android features connected to its Gemini AI platform, including smarter voice tools and AI-generated home screen widgets.

Apple’s upcoming software cycle is expected to serve as a test of how aggressively the company can integrate AI into consumer products while maintaining the simplified interface style that has long defined the iPhone.

Apple has not publicly commented on the reported features.
