M-Pesa services to be unavailable on Monday morning

Kenya’s leading telco Safaricom has issued a notice to its customers of planned system maintenance that will affect its mobile money transfer service M-Pesa.

The notice which was issued on Sunday said that M-Pesa will undergo a scheduled maintenance exercise on Monday 26th June from 1.00 am to 1:20 am.

“All other services including calls, data and SMS will remain available as usual,” the notice read.

Safaricom adds that the timing of the maintenance had been planned to result in the least inconvenience to their customers.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for supporting us,” the notice further read.

M-Pesa is among Safaricom’s top revenue earners. In the full year ended March 2023, the mobile money service revenue grew by 8.8% to Ksh 117.2 billion.

This growth, Safaricom says was supported by increased usage and growth of chargeable transactions per one-month active customers by 16.2% YoY to 23.54 transactions.

This revenue growth is expected to grow further after the company recently announced that it had received the license to operationalize M-Pesa in Ethiopia.
