M-Pesa services to be unavailable on Monday morning


Kenyaā€™s leading telco Safaricom has issued a notice to its customers of planned system maintenance that will affect its mobile money transfer service M-Pesa.

The notice which was issued on Sunday said that M-Pesa will undergo a scheduled maintenance exercise on Monday 26th June from 1.00 am to 1:20 am.

ā€œAll other services including calls, data and SMS will remain available as usual,ā€ the notice read.

Safaricom adds that the timing of the maintenance had been planned to result in the least inconvenience to their customers.Ā 

ā€œWe are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for supporting us,ā€ the notice further read.Ā 

M-Pesa is among Safaricomā€™s top revenue earners. In the full year ended March 2023, the mobile money service revenue grew by 8.8% to Ksh 117.2 billion.

This growth, Safaricom says was supported by increased usage and growth of chargeable transactions per one-month active customers by 16.2% YoY to 23.54 transactions.Ā 

This revenue growth is expected to grow further after the company recently announced that it had received the license to operationalize M-Pesa in Ethiopia.
