NOKIA 5 First impression: Nokia pulled off a nice design

The Nokia 5 was among the 3 devices that HMD Global unveiled in Kenya back in July this year in the country. The Android-based devices comprised of the Nokia 3, the Nokia 6 are targeted at the budget segment.

Early this month, HMD Global also launched the Nokia 2, it’s cheapest Android device which we have told you about before.

Well, we got our hands on the Nokia 5 with us which primarily can be described as a younger sister to the Nokia 6. In this article, I won’t go so much into details but just give you a brief overview of what to expect should you decide to buy one.

First, the Nokia 5 comes in an attractive looking box. The packaging is simple and inside the box, you get the usual accessories:

  • A Micro USB to USB-A cable
  • A wall charger
  • A pair of earphones
  • A SIM ejector
  • Instruction leaflets and obviously a
  • A Nokia 5 unit

Below are the specs

  • Screen size: 5.2inch
  • Resolution: 720×1280
  • Battery: 3000mAh
  • Front camera: 8MP
  • Rear camera: 13MP
  • Weight: 160g
  • Dimensions (mm): 149.7 x 72.5 x 8
  • OS: Android 7
  • CPU: Snapdragon 430
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Storage: 16GB + microSD

First impression.

The Nokia 5 feels every bit a premium flagship smartphone from the design. The aluminum unibody smartphone comes with an amazing build quality with curved edges giving you that lasting Nokia impression.

The handset also comes with a  2.5D curved glass finish with a smaller display measuring at just 5.2-inches. It’s slim and very light, easy to use and hold with one hand.

The home button on the Nokia 5 is located at the front and also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor, and is sandwiched between capacitive buttons on either side.

At the back you have a vertical protruding strip holding the main 13MP camera and an LED flash which takes some really good pictures. This is also where you have the Nokia branding.

The power toggle and volume buttons are on the right.

The SIM tray is on the left. Interestingly, the Nokia 5 has a dedicated dual-SIM slot (supports FDD and TDD bands in 4G) along with an expansion slot.

A 3.5mm audio socket is at the top.

The micro-USB port is at the bottom.

The star attraction of the Nokia 5 is the pure Android experience which I really love. Something important to note is that you are also guaranteed to get two full years of softwares updates including monthly Google security patches.

We have a full review coming up this week where we will be telling you about all the other tiny details you need to know about this device.  Bottomline, Nokia has managed to pull off a nice design on the Nokia 5, same thing I have seen with all the other Nokia devices.
