Kenya’s AfyaRekod Partners with Medi-Science to Decentralize Access to Patient Data

Medi-Science International and Kenya’s healthcare startup AfyaRekod have announced a partnership aimed at transforming healthcare delivery through improved access to personal health data in Africa and Europe.

The partnership aims to decentralize access to health data and will give patients access to their own health history. Patients, doctors and hospitals will securely have access to health records hosted on the platform.

John Kamara, CEO  AfyaRekod said, “Our vision is to put patients at the core of what we do. We want families to have access to their medical records virtually and access them any time, in a matter of seconds. The partnership with Medi-Science International Limited will allow for a seamless flow of data between the patient and doctors.”

Decentralized systems in the health sector are expected to significantly change the current healthcare systems whose standard procedures include storage of patients’ data by health facilities or their doctors only.

The platform by AfyaRekod allows patients to capture, store, access and own their health records.

Sunny Ahonsi, CEO of Medi-Science International Limited said, “At Medi-Science we are working along with the current Healthcare Systems while at the same time decentralizing their conventional formalities to generate the most efficient, effective and economical standards of care.”

With clinicians being able to view data and share it with other experts, the platform allows for more efficiency in decision-making while significantly reducing costs for patients.
