Huawei to invest Ksh.30 billion for digital transformation in Africa


Chinese technology giant Huawei has announced a commitment to invest approximately KES.30 billion in various initiatives that will advance industrial digital transformation in Africa and Middle East region.

The announcement was made by Steve Yi, Huawei’s President for Africa and the Middle East region during the Huawei Dubai Connect, an event that brought together more than 3,000 stakeholders from the region.

Huawei launched an initiative dubbed Empower Program, which aims to contribute to a thriving digital ecosystem for global partners.

“Through this program, the firm will conduct joint innovation with its partners, empower them with a new framework and an integrated platform and create a talent pool,” the company said in a statement.

The company aims to achieves its objectives by setting up OpenLabs through the Huawei ICT Academy and the Huawei Authorized Learning Partner (HALP) programs.

“Our mission is to build out local digital ecosystems by developing our partners, strengthen the digital talent pool across the region and provide more support for its SMEs,”  Yi said.

Huawei also revealed that it’s exploring ways of applying the fifth-generation fixed network(F5G) across various industries. The company said that it acknowledges the importance of data and its role in digital transformation,

“Huawei’s approach to digital transformation has three pillars: greener infrastructure, ongoing innovation, and shared experience. Huawei Cloud aims to be the best digitalization partner for customers, and is working with partners and customers to unleash digital with everything as a Service.” The company explains.
