Safaricom lets fibre users share data with up to family members
Safaricom has launched a plan that lets home fibre customers share mobile data or minutes with up to five family members on a single bill, as it seeks to lock in households in a competitive home broadband market.
The Family Share plan, available to new and existing customers, combines Safaricom’s Home Fibre service with mobile voice, data and SMS under one package.
The entry-level plan costs Sh3,749 a month. It offers fibre speeds of 40Mbps plus either 750 voice minutes or 14GB of mobile data shared among up to five family members.
“People work, learn, travel, explore and stay connected across different spaces, and they want greater value without added complexity,” said Fawzia Ali, Safaricom’s chief consumer business officer.
“With Family Share, we aim to keep customers seamlessly connected, whether at home or on the go,” she said.
The plan is part of the telco’s Pata More initiative and follows speed upgrades for existing home fibre customers at no extra cost.
Safaricom says the number of active fibre-to-the-home customers has grown 27 per cent. The share of connected homes with active subscriptions rose to 71 per cent from 66.8 per cent.
The fixed-and-mobile bundle is Safaricom’s latest move to deepen its hold on households and reduce customer churn. Competition for home internet subscribers is intensifying from rivals such as Zuku, Airtel and Faiba, as well as satellite provider Starlink.
Customers can sign up through the My OneApp, by dialling *400#, or at Safaricom shops and authorised dealers.
