Absa Bank Kenya PLC and Vivo Energy Kenya, the company that distributes and markets Shell products and services in the country, have signed a financing partnership to give Shell service station dealers access to tailored financing solutions supporting business growth, expansion and long-term sustainability.
The partnership will provide financing to eligible Vivo Energy Kenya dealers, enabling them to pay rent to landowners in advance for agreed periods and to construct additional sites. The facility is designed to help dealers secure strategic business locations while preserving working capital for day-to-day operations, investment and future growth.
Vivo Energy operates one of Kenya’s largest fuel retail networks, with approximately 350 service stations across the country. The partnership is expected to strengthen the dealer ecosystem, support infrastructure development and contribute to growth within Kenya’s energy and mobility sector.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Absa Bank Kenya Business Banking Director Renato D’souza said the lender was committed to developing innovative financing solutions that address real business needs and unlock growth opportunities for customers. “This partnership with Vivo Energy Kenya and its Shell brand demonstrates our commitment to being a trusted growth partner for businesses by enabling dealers to secure long-term operating locations, strengthen their businesses, and invest confidently in the future,” D’souza said.
The facility addresses a common challenge for fuel station operators, who often require significant upfront capital to secure long-term lease arrangements. Structured financing is expected to give dealers greater certainty for their businesses while maintaining the liquidity needed to support operations and expansion plans.
Vivo Energy Kenya Managing Director Peter Murungi said the company had started a financial partnership journey with Absa Bank Kenya as it pursues its growth agenda in the country, having pushed the Shell brand and products to become a market leader. “As the company continues its growth agenda, it is bringing Absa Bank Kenya on board as a financial partner providing easier access to financing for investment and business development to Vivo Energy Kenya’s dealers and investors,” Murungi said.
