Absa Bank Kenya posts Kshs 10.5bn half-year profit on deposit, asset growth

Absa Bank Kenya PLC has posted a profit after tax of Kshs 10.5 billion for the half-year ended June 30, 2026, driven by growth in customer deposits and assets.

The lender’s return on equity stood at 21.7 percent, a figure it says ranks among the highest in the banking industry.

Customer assets grew 8 percent to Kshs 329.9 billion during the period, while customer deposits rose 5 percent to Kshs 380.7 billion. Total assets climbed to Kshs 558.1 billion.

Capital adequacy stood at 19.4 percent and liquidity reserves at 42.7 percent, both above regulatory minimums.

Total revenue for the half-year came in at Kshs 29.3 billion. Net interest income stood at Kshs 21.1 billion, while non-interest income totalled Kshs 8.2 billion.

Income from subsidiaries, including asset management, custody and bancassurance, grew 20 percent year-on-year, a contribution the Bank says is broadening its earnings base.

Absa Bank Kenya Interim Managing Director and CEO Yusuf Omari said the results reflected resilience despite a challenging operating environment.

“While the dynamic operating environment exerted pressure on performance, the Bank recorded strong momentum in the second quarter,” he said.

During the period, the lender launched a developer-led home financing product with an interest rate of 8.9 percent per annum and financing of up to 105 percent for qualifying homebuyers.

It also launched a Kshs 1 billion Zinduka Graduate Enterprise Programme targeted at youth entrepreneurs, and committed Kshs 100 billion over three years to an asset financing proposition covering manufacturing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, trade and logistics.

The proposition offers up to 100 percent financing for targeted assets.

Omari said the Bank’s broader strategy remained centred on customer-led growth across its consumer, business and corporate banking segments.

The Bank’s Board of Directors has approved an interim dividend of Kshs 0.5 per ordinary share.
