Nairobi-based fintech WayaWaya has appointed veteran banking executive Raj Singh as Non-Executive Director and Adviser to the Board as it enters its next phase of commercial growth and international expansion.
The company builds conversational commerce, embedded payments and AI-powered financial services. It said the appointment comes as it scales its platform across banking, payments and conversational commerce, deepens partnerships with financial institutions and merchants, and expands into new markets across Africa and beyond.
Mr Singh brings more than 25 years of international leadership experience in banking, fintech and digital transformation across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
He held senior executive positions at Chase Bank Kenya as Group Chief Operating Officer and Director of Retail Banking, where he helped drive the bank’s digital banking strategy, operational transformation and customer experience initiatives.
He previously led banking operations transformation at First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Nigeria and spent more than five years at ICICI Bank in India overseeing large-scale retail banking operations and business transformation programmes.
Following his executive banking career, Mr Singh moved into advising financial institutions, fintechs and technology companies on strategy, digital banking, artificial intelligence and operational transformation. He is currently Managing Director of Rova, a director at Finova360 and Finnafrica, and mentors high-growth startups through FasterCapital. He is also the author of four books, including Amazon No. 1 bestselling titles on digital banking transformation and artificial intelligence.
Teddy Ogallo, founder and chief executive officer of WayaWaya, said the appointment comes at a defining moment for the company.
“Raj joins us at an important point in WayaWaya’s growth journey. His banking, fintech and international experience will be invaluable as we move from innovation to scale,” said Mr Ogallo.
He added that the company was looking forward to working with Mr Singh “in shaping and executing our growth strategy, particularly in expanding our network of banking partners and merchants, strengthening strategic partnerships, and taking WayaWaya into new markets across Africa and beyond.”
Mr Singh said he was drawn to the company’s positioning at the intersection of commerce, payments and artificial intelligence.
“WayaWaya is building an exciting platform at the intersection of conversational commerce, payments and artificial intelligence, solving real challenges for banks, merchants and businesses,” he said.
“I am delighted to join the Board at this important stage of the company’s journey and look forward to working with Teddy and the leadership team to strengthen strategic partnerships, accelerate commercial growth and support WayaWaya’s expansion across Africa and international markets.”
At WayaWaya, Mr Singh will work with the board and executive leadership team to guide long-term strategy, strengthen governance, expand banking and merchant partnerships, support commercial scale-up and help steer the company’s international growth agenda.
WayaWaya’s platform enables banks, merchants and enterprises to deliver customer engagement, payments and digital financial services through messaging platforms and other digital channels, combining AI, payment infrastructure and banking integrations to support financial experiences at scale.
