Nairobi’s Sustainable Structures Joins FasterCapital’s EquityPilot

Nairobi-based startup Sustainable Structures has joined FasterCapital’s EquityPilot program to refine its industrial design and prepare its modular, fire-resistant kiosks for mass production.

The startup is developing standardised, assembled-from-component kiosks aimed at replacing the makeshift structures many African micro-entrepreneurs currently rely on, which are often poorly built, vulnerable to fire and difficult to relocate. Sustainable Structures’ design prioritises mobility, structural durability, fire resistance and material sustainability, while aiming to be attractive enough for mass adoption among urban vendors.

Through EquityPilot, FasterCapital will spend the first 30 to 60 days helping the startup translate its prototype into an industrial production process. This includes finalising component designs and supplier specifications, mapping the machinery and factory layout needed for pilot production, developing licensing, insurance and accreditation checklists, and building a phased staffing and training plan for initial production runs.

Sustainable Structures is led by CEO Samuel Ngugi and CTO Josephat S. Wang’oma, with Zackary Ndungu overseeing sales and marketing. The founders have moved from an initial prototype to designing industrial components intended to support repeatable, scalable production.

The startup is targeting a segment of Africa’s informal economy that has seen little standardisation: urban micro-entrepreneurs selling goods from kiosks and small stalls. By offering a manufactured, branded kiosk alternative, the company hopes to complement artisan-built structures while addressing gaps in safety, sustainability and aesthetics, an opportunity FasterCapital says is well-timed given rising urbanisation and growing attention from municipal authorities to informal-sector resilience.

Over the next 90 days, Sustainable Structures and FasterCapital aim to complete a pilot production plan, secure a manufacturing premise, and initiate supplier relationships for a first small-scale production run, alongside market initiation activities to validate demand for the branded kiosks.
