Xiaomi 13 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC launches globally


After launching the Xiaomi 13 series in China back in December 2022, Xiaomi is now making them available for the global market.

Xiaomi has launched this flagship series at MWC Barcelona comprising the  Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. 

The series features a number of premium features including Qualcomm’s latest high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Leica branded rear cameras and fast wireless charging among other features. 

For the cameras, Xiaomi Through collaborated with Leica to offer a brand-new smartphone photography experience to users. The high-anticipated dual flagship models on the  Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro are co-engineered with Leica and offer Leica professional optical lenses, as well as a host of advanced computational and software capabilities to complete an authentic Leica experience. 

Also introduced during the launch is Xiaomi 13 Lite, which the company says delivers excellent portrait imaging and extended photography options for aspirational young adults.

Let’s look at each of the devices in this series.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

The Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 6.73-inch OLED 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) display featuring Dolby Vision, HDR10+ support, up to 240Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

The display Xiaomi says is rated to deliver up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness and features Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. 

For the optics, the Xiaomi 13 Pro sports a Leica-branded triple rear camera setup. The headline here is the 50-megapixel 1-inch Sony IMX989 primary sensor with HyperOIS and f/1.9 aperture. The camera unit also includes a 50-megapixel floating 75mm telephoto sensor with support for OIS and EIS and f/2 aperture and a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor with 115-degree view angle and f/2.2 aperture. There is a 32-megapixel sensor at the front for selfies.

For the battery, the Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 4,820mAh battery that supports 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support and has Hi-Res audio certification. It is also IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

It’s a dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) device with support for 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.3, NFC, GPS, Beidu, Glonass, Galileo, and a USB Type-C port. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is available in two colors – Ceramic White and Ceramic Black.

Xiaomi 13 

This is the base model and comes with a 6.36 OLED (1,080×2,400 pixels) display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. It is also powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of inbuilt storage.

For the cameras, the Xiaomi 13 features a triple rear camera setup also with Leica branding. The setup includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, 23mm focal length and HyperOIS, a 10-megapixel secondary sensor with OIS and f/2.0 aperture, and a 12-megapixel ultra wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture. There is a 32-megapixel selfie sensor with f /2.0 aperture on the front for selfies and video calls. 

The Xiaomi 13 features a 4,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

Just like the pro variant, Xiaomi 13 also offers IP68 dust and water resistance, ensuring optimal protection and peace of mind. 

Other features

Notably, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 will offer 3 generations of Android system updates, along with 5 years of security patch updates. Users of the two devices are also entitled to experience 6 months of free trial for both Google One cloud storage of up to 2TB, which brings expanded storage space for memories taken with the pro-grade camera system, and up to 6 months of YouTube Premium with ad-free access to YouTube and YouTube Music app. Furthermore, thanks to Android’s digital car key feature support, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 will let users share their digital car keys with loved ones to unlock, lock, and start their cars. 

In addition, both Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 users will get one out-of-warranty repair without labor cost within the first 12 months after purchase. To further improve the overall after-sales experience, Xiaomi now offers Smartphone International Warranty Service in over 40 markets worldwide. Users of Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones that meet the device’s warranty conditions can enjoy the warranty service internationally at any designated Xiaomi authorized service provider. 

Pricing and availability

We don’t have details about the local pricing and when Xiaomi plans to make the Xiaomi 13 series available in Kenya. We will share more updates in our subsequent articles.
