HMD Global Introduces Nokia 2.3 and Nokia C1 in Kenya


HMD Global has announced two devices in Kenya today. The two are all budget-oriented smartphones but the Nokia C1 is more of an entry-level device considering its price.

Commenting during the launch of the phone, Gopher Ogembo, Senior Business Manager East Africa, HMD Global, said, “Consumers in Kenya have really appreciated the Nokia 2 family of products. The Nokia 2.3 is a step forward in our promise of offering you an experience that stays fresh longer – giving consumers access to two years of OS upgrades and three years of monthly security updates even in the affordable price tier. ”

Nokia C1

Nokia C1 is a new phone that has been shaped over the years now shipping with smart features. Going for Ksh 5,999, it features entry-level specs like 1GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM, a single 5MP on the front and rear and is powered by a small 2500mAh battery.

It comes in two colors; Rose Gold and Green and runs on Android 9.0 Pie (Go Edition).

Nokia 2.3

Nokia’s latest budget-oriented smartphone Nokia 2.3 has been officially announced in Kenya. The phone goes for Ksh 12,300. It has a sizeable 6.2-inch LCD display with 720 x 1520 pixels resolution.

The whole device presents itself in a 19:9 screen to body ratio and comes with a waterdrop notch on the front. The bottom chin is quite broad, which carries the Nokia branding for no good reason.

Out of the box, Nokia 2.3 runs on Google’s Android 9.0 Pie, but it will be updated to Q soon since it is under the Android One program. In that line, security patches will also be seeded out monthly for three good years.

The RAM is 2GB and comes with 32GB of internal storage for the storage of media files. On top of that, there is a microSD card slot so you can still expand the storage up to 400GB.

About the processor, this phone is powered by Mediatek’s Quad-core MT6761 Helio A22 chipset which has been seen on several devices at this price point.

The camera is a dual setup composed of a 13MP primary sensor working in tow with a 2MP lens for depth sensing. For selfies, Nokia 2.3 has a 5MP f./2.4 lens placed in a waterdrop notch. Apart from these features, there are also some common ones like Bluetooth & WIFI support, a micro-USB port, LTE support, and a non-removable battery with 4,000mAh in capacity.

It comes in three colors, Cyan Green, Sand, and Charcoal.
