Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Launching in Kenya on November 25th

Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is one of the most popular smartphones of the company. Last month the company reported selling a total of 100 million smartphones since the inception of the series in 2014. Redmi Note 7 units accounted for 20% of the total sales, and the Redmi Note 8 is a successor that aims to deliver even better for less.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 launched in two variants – Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. The phones were announced first in September, and Xiaomi’s local dealer has taken their time before availing the phones locally.

Redmi Note 8 sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) notched display. The phone presents itself in a 19.5:9 screen to body ratio. Both sides of the phone are housed in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to add an extra layer of protection. The battery is a 4,000mAh battery, and you can enjoy up to 18W fast charging speeds via USB type C connector.

On matters photography, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 packs a quad-camera setup on the back with a 48MP sensor on the front. The other lenses include an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP micro camera lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is a 13MP f/2.0 sensor with HDR and panorama modes supported.

Other specs of the phone include the following; Snapdragon 665 SoC, MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 4.2 and will come in Neptune Blue, Moonlight White, Space Black colors. The device comes in variant models with the base variant having 3GB of RAM paired with 32GB of internal storage.

But in Kenya, the company says they are launching the 6GB/64GB model first, but the 6GB/128GB model will also be selling locally a week later. There is no word on the Pro version, so you might as well buy somewhere else if you really need that.

The phone will be available in Kenya from November 25th. The launch event will take place in Nairobi’s Serena Hotel from 9:30 AM.
