Samsung Galaxy A51 Ranked As The Best Selling Smartphone in Q1 2020


  • The first quarter of the year hasn’t been kind to the smartphone market due to the coronavirus outbreak. But that didn’t stop some devices from rising up the ranks.

A recent report from Strategy Analytics gives us a look at the best-selling smartphones in Q1 2020. The report shows mid-range devices are growingly becoming dominant. Another interesting thing is the market was dominated by devices from just two companies: Samsung and Xiaomi.

Samsung occupied four spots out of the six, while Xiaomi had two devices on the list. The top-selling phone of the quarter was Samsung Galaxy A51 with a total of 6 million units shipped globally in Q1, accounting for 2.3 percent of total shipments. Xiaomi Redmi 8 grabbed the second spot with total units shipped accounting for 1.9 percent market share.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8’s success has been attributed to massive sales in the world’s biggest markets like India and China, as well as in Europe.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Plus came in third with 1.7 percent share. It was the only flagship device in the list.

The list continues to show customers are becoming price-conscious, seeking the best value for money devices.

“As mobile operators have reduced subsidies in recent years, and many countries are now tumbling into post-virus recession, smartphone consumers globally are becoming increasingly price-sensitive and they are seeking out new Android models that deliver the biggest bang for their buck,” said Juha Winter, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics.
