Huawei feels optimistic about the future even without Google

Recent months have not been kind to Huawei. But at least the company has been recording sales growth in its smartphone business despite being blacklisted in the US. This has been majorly driven by the patriotic nature of Chinese nationals who have stood firmly with their local company since the US ban kicked in.

Before the ban, Huawei had already targeted the number one spot in the smartphone industry. As per now, Huawei still stands as the second smartphone vendor in the world.

Moving forward, Huawei’s CEO Ren Zhengfei says they can still make it to the number one spot even without Google. He said to CNN in an interview recently that they are working on a “large scale” solution that will help tackle the issue.

When asked about being the first smartphone vendor without Google, Ren said he doesn’t think that will be a problem, but it just takes time.

He also reveals that the company plans to return to the global market in 2020 and 2021.

So far, we have seen some moves from the company like its own in-house OS – Harmony a.k.a HongMeng. The company has also, in the past few months, promoted its smartphone ecosystem dubbed Huawei Mobile Services.

The company previously acknowledged it’s hard to establish an ecosystem than develop an Operating System.

“Creating an operating system is relatively simple. The critical factor is establishing an ecosystem, and this requires the cooperation of tens of thousands of companies,” said Ren Zhengfei, Founder & CEO, Huawei, in an interview with CNBC in early October.

“This is very complicated and needs a long time to develop,” he added.
