Paratus Tanzania, part of pan-African telecommunications group Paratus, has established a new point of presence (PoP) at Wingu Data Centre in Dar es Salaam. The facility expands regional and international connectivity options for Tanzanian operators, internet service providers (ISPs) and businesses.
The PoP, which went live in September 2026, connects Tanzania to the wider Paratus network. Routes run north to Nairobi via Mombasa and south to Maputo, then on to Johannesburg and Eswatini. International links reach Europe and the US.
Through the new site, Paratus Tanzania will offer IP transit, Layer 2 circuits, wholesale network capacity and international connectivity to local carriers, ISPs and enterprises.
“Our focus is on connecting Tanzania to the wider Paratus network and giving businesses and service providers access to the regional and international connectivity they need,” said Said Alli, managing director of Paratus Tanzania.
“This new PoP strengthens our local capabilities while creating more opportunities for our customers to connect with markets beyond Tanzania.”
The Dar es Salaam PoP supports Paratus’ Kigali-to-Mombasa (K2M) network strategy, which aims to strengthen terrestrial links between East African markets and give them access to international subsea cable capacity at the coast. The company says the new site adds an important connection point between its operations in East and Southern Africa.
Dar es Salaam is a key landing point for several international subsea cables. It also serves as a gateway for landlocked neighbours such as Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Zambia, which depend on coastal routes for international bandwidth.
Paratus operates in 16 countries across sub-equatorial Africa and has international points of presence in Europe, the UK and the US. Its wider investments include an East-to-West Africa fibre route and an “Express Route” linking Johannesburg to international networks.
The group says its Paratus 500 initiative is part of its mission to connect half a billion people across sub-equatorial Africa.
