Safaricom Foundation has recently launched phase eight of its Ndoto Zetu initiative and has committed KES 100 million to community -led projects in health, education, and economic empowerment across all the counties in Kenya.
In this phase, applicants whose proposals were not funded would be given an opportunity, as the foundation will review past submissions and identify projects that have the potential to deliver lasting and meaningful benefits to their communities.
However, this year’s funding brings Safaricom Foundation’s total investment in Ndoto Zetu to KES 700 million since the initiative’s inception in 2019.
So far, the programme has supported more than 2300 community projects, reaching over 7.1 million people across the country. In the previous phase, 301 projects were approved, benefiting more than 1.9 million Kenyans.
Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu said the decision to reconsider earlier proposals was aimed at giving communities with viable ideas another opportunity to turn them into projects.
“With Ndoto Zetu, we are inspired by everyday Kenyans who dare to dream not just for themselves, but for their communities. As we move into the eighth phase, we are giving Kenyans who have long wanted to create positive change in their communities another opportunity to make their dreams a reality.” He said.
Since its launch, Ndoto Zetu has focused on projects identified and driven by communities themselves, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach to local development.
