Truecaller Launches of Travel eSIM Service
Truecaller has announced its entry into the travel eSIM segment through the launch of services aimed at travellers. The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to diversify revenue sources and mitigate dependence on advertising as ad-related earnings continue to decline.
The service debuts with data packages ranging from 1GB for short-term seven-day use to 20GB plans valid for 30 days.
At launch, the service will be available across 29 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and several European markets. Countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Chile and select Nordic nations are also included.
India, Truecaller’s largest market, was notably absent from the initial rollout, likely due to the country’s strict telecommunications regulations governing eSIM providers. The country has previously taken action against companies such as Airalo and Holafly over concerns surrounding fraudulent activity.
The backend infrastructure is provided by Sweden-based Telness Tech, whose cloud-native telecom platform, Seamless OS, enables the deployment, management and scaling of digital mobile services.
“Truecaller has built one of the world’s most trusted communication platforms, used by more than 500 million people globally. We are proud that Seamless OS is powering their move into travel eSIM and supporting the launch of a simple, digital mobile data service across 29 countries,” said Martina Klingvall, CEO and Founder of Telness Tech.
Fredrik Kjell, Truecaller’s COO, said the company sees the launch as a natural extension of its trusted communications brand. He said Truecaller’s global reach enables it to deliver a competitively priced travel eSIM offering and revealed that the rollout will begin on iPhone and web channels before expanding to Android devices and more markets.
