NTSA Opens Online Sessions Ahead of the Country’s eLogbook Switch
Vehicle owners in Kenya have less than a month to prepare for a major change in motor vehicle records after the National Transport and Safety Authority confirmed that digital logbooks will take effect from June 10, 2026.
The agency has scheduled a 10-day online sensitisation programme before the transition begins, targeting sectors that regularly handle vehicle ownership records, financing, insurance and transport licensing. Registration for the sessions closes on May 20.
National Transport and Safety Authority said the virtual forums will start on May 25 with participants drawn from the motor vehicle trade, including assemblers, body builders and dealers. Banks and other lenders are expected to join the following day, while diplomatic missions are scheduled for sessions on May 27.
The training calendar also includes SACCOs, driving schools, ride-hailing companies, PSV operators, school transport providers, county governments and investigative agencies. Public participation sessions will run between June 2 and June 4 through two daily virtual meetings.
The digital platform is set to replace paper logbooks across vehicle registration services. Ownership transfers, inspection records, changes to vehicle details and registration of newly imported units will all move into the electronic system once implementation begins.
Vehicle owners will be able to retrieve and verify logbook records through the eCitizen platform instead of relying on physical documentation. The shift places logbook management within Kenya’s broader migration toward state-managed digital records and online public services.
NTSA says the move is intended to reduce document fraud, shorten processing timelines and limit losses linked to damaged or misplaced physical logbooks. The authority is also preparing institutions that depend on vehicle records to adjust internal verification and compliance procedures before the launch date.
The rollout comes as transport agencies continue expanding online transaction systems to reduce in-person processing and standardise records across government databases.
