BuildHealth4Africa hackathon launched, up to Ksh 500k prize money up for grabs


RHIPFactory Venture Studio, in collaboration with Qhala Kenya and Africa CDC has announced the launch of the BuildHealth4Africa Hackathon targeting healthcare innovators.

The Hackathon will be held in Nairobi from April 19th to 21st, 2024, with cash prizes of up to Ksh.500,000 up for grabs.

The 48-hour sprint Hackathon seeks to help develop digital healthcare solutions that transform access, affordability, quality, and efficiency in healthcare services across East Africa.

According to Dr Henri Onyemachi, Founder & CEO of RHIPFactory Inc USA, the East African region much like the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa faces a critical need for innovative solutions that bridge healthcare infrastructure and capacity gaps. The BuildHealth4Africa Hackathon brings together passionate individuals to tackle these challenges head-on.

Participants are expected to leverage cutting-edge technologies like Mobile and cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Extended Reality, and Blockchain to develop prototypes that address key areas.

These areas include:

  • Expanding Access: Reach underserved communities and ensure everyone has a path to quality care.
  • Reducing Costs: Make healthcare more affordable for all East Africans.
  • Improving Quality: Elevate the standards of care delivery across the region.
  • Boosting Efficiency: Streamline healthcare systems to get the most out of existing resources.

This hackathon is a pre-conference event for the Connected Africa Summit 2024.

BuildHealth4Africa(Nairobi Edition) is Supported by Africa CDC, Kenya Ministry Of Information, Communications And The Digital Economy, Kenya Ministry of Health, The ICT Authority, Safaricom, Britam Insurance, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and other partners.
