Facebook Reels: Instagram officially launched Reels in August last year to take on TikTok. Instead of disappearing after 24 hours like Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels allows you to make and share short, captivating videos.
Even while it was once derided as a “TikTok rip-off,” Instagram Reels has now won over influencers, brands, and everyday users alike. And well, it looks like Meta, is now also bringing Reels on Facebook.
Meta launched Reels on Facebook in the US for iOS and Android back in September last year and it looks like users in other countries like Kenya will now be able to use them. There is no official communication from Facebook about the rollout but I spotted the update in my Facebook news feeds.
‘’Your Reels are shared directly to your fans in their core News Feed and to new audiences in a dedicated Reels section in News Feed that gives people who are new to you the opportunity to discover and enjoy your creations.’’ the company says
Just like on Instagram, before sharing a Reel, you can edit and trim clips to your desired length, or add effects, stickers and text. You’ll have access to a variety of creative editing tools, including Audio that lets you add a song from the Facebook music library, or use your own original audio. Your original audio is attributed to you and can be used by the Facebook community to create their Reels.
You can also speed up or slow down a part of your video or audio while you record, select one of the many effects to record multiple clips with different effects as well as record a clip hands-free using the timer.
Facebook Reels can be recorded in a series of clips (one at a time) or all at once using video uploads from your phone’s photo gallery or by uploading new video during the creation process.
