[Services Restored]Safaricom Customers Unable to Access Critical Services Due to a Major Glitch

Data, SMS and Call Services have been hit. The telco says its working to restore the affected services

Safaricom customers woke up to a lack of services this morning as a glitch hit the telco’s infrastructure. Customers were not able to send SMS, make calls and even access the internet.

As of the time of writing, mobile data, SMS, and call services are still unavailable. It appears the glitch also affected the company’s fiber-optic services earlier in the morning. But fixed data services have been restored.

Social media platforms are lit up with posts about the service disruption, with many complaining about not being able to access different services, including making calls.

Safaricom told one of the affected customers, “our sincere apologies there is a system issue affecting call, SMS and data services. Our team is aware and is working to have the services restored as soon as possible.”

The M-PESA business app is also down, and the telco is advising customers to use STK. The standard M-PESA app is, however, working normally on my end.

It’s, however, puzzling that the telco has not taken the initiative to notify millions of its customers about the ongoing service disruption.

No official statement has been released over the same as well despite the extended disruption that started early morning.

We shall update the article in case of any changes.

Update 2:40 PM:

Safaricom has restored affected services.
