Samsung has been named the number one global TV manufacturer in 2020. The company finished at the top of the market in Q4, 2020, and for the whole of the year, according to market research firm Omdia. This means that the company has now retained its top position 15 years in a row.
From October to December 31st, Samsung controlled 31.8% of the global TV market share by revenue. And for the full year, it had a 31.9 percent market share, the largest among its peers.
“Consumers use screens every day to entertain, connect with loved ones, work, exercise from home, and do much more. And we have seen how different lifestyles and routines have not only evolved but converged,” said Jong-hee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
“We continue to be incredibly humbled by the trust placed in our vision and products; it is what drives our relentless pursuit to deliver cutting-edge innovation and a best-in-class screen experience that meets the needs of the modern-day consumer.”
Samsung’s technological advancements in the TV industry have helped the company stays on top for a decade and a half despite the existence of able competitors like Sony, LG, and others. The company is also the market leader in the high-end market for ultra-large TVs with at least 75-inches.
Recently the company unveiled its 2021 TV lineup with several models across Neo QLED, MICRO LED, and Lifestyle TV Lines. The whole new Neo QLED TV line uses its latest Mini-LED-based Neo QLED display technology to provide deeper blacks, higher brightness, and more contrast ratio than its typical QLED TVs.
The South Korean tech giant anticipates leading the market in 2021 due to the expansion of its TV portfolio.
It promises to continue investing in R&D and product development “in strategic business areas to strengthen its core and emerging technology offers.”
