Huawei To Launch Huawei Y7p in Kenya on April 17th

Huawei Mobile Kenya is set to officially unveil another smartphone in the local market. Dubbed the Huawei Y7P, the phone still holds the normal Y series standards.

“Mid-range smartphones are often limited by their price point, which leads to them having to sacrifice key features. Even users who opt for smartphones in this segment have to settle for less,” said Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head, Jim Zhujie.

“However, Huawei’s famed Y series adds a spin to this segment with smartphones that bring powerful features and trend-setting designs seen on flagship devices,” he added.

The phone will be unveiled next week, on April 17 and will be the company’s first phone shipping without Google Mobile Services in the country.

Huawei Y7p sports a 6.39″ 720p punch-hole IPS LCD display, a triple rear camera setup (48 MP, f/1.8 wide lens + 8 MP, f/2.4, ultrawide lens + 2 MP depth sensor), an 8 MP, f/2.0 selfie camera, 4G of RAM and 64GB of onboard expandable storage.

It has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and supports up to 4G LTE network.  Unfortunately, the phone ships with the open-source version of Android 9.0 Pie out of the box splashed on top with EMUI 9.1 although for now consumers mostly expect to get the latest android version. Huawei Y7p comes with Huawei Mobile Services, a less robust GMS replacement.

In the Kenyan market, Huawei Y7p will be the company’s first device shipping without Google’s services, including YouTube, Gmail, Chrome and more. It is, therefore, the first time, for the local office to see how consumers will react to the lack of such important services in the local as well as the global market.
