Huawei brings Agentic AI Cloud to Nigeria as the race to build an AI-ready economy gathers pace
Huawei has launched its Agentic AI Cloud and artificial intelligence solutions in Nigeria, targeting organizations across finance, telecommunications, government and other sectors as the country seeks to expand its use of AI technologies.
The solutions were unveiled in Lagos during the Huawei Nigeria AI & Cloud Summit, bringing together government officials, technology companies and industry stakeholders to discuss the development of Nigeria’s AI and cloud ecosystem.
Huawei said its local cloud infrastructure will support organizations looking to build and deploy AI agents while addressing requirements around data residency, security, regulatory compliance and low-latency computing.
The company is positioning Agentic AI Cloud as a platform that can help businesses move beyond traditional cloud services towards AI systems capable of carrying out tasks and supporting business processes with less human intervention.
Speaking at the summit, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat said the country’s AI ambitions would depend on more than access to advanced models.
“Lagos is not a city waiting for the AI future to arrive. We are building the digital foundations and real-world conditions in which that future can take root.” He said.
NITDA Director-General and CEO Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said Nigeria’s National Sovereign Cloud Initiative is intended to support a secure and competitive digital environment while attracting investment in cloud and AI technologies.
“Nigeria has the foundation to lead Africa’s AI era. Huawei’s commitment is to turn that foundation into intelligent productivity through All Intelligence, deep local capabilities, an open ecosystem and build the next chapter of Nigeria’s growth, together.” added Austin You, CEO, Huawei Nigeria.
The launch builds on Huawei’s growing cloud presence in the Nigerian market. Huawei Cloud established a local hyperscale cloud infrastructure in Nigeria in 2024, allowing organizations to store and process data locally while meeting data residency requirements.
The company subsequently expanded its cloud services for sectors including financial services, government, internet services and enterprises, with a focus on security, compliance and digital transformation.
Huawei has operated in Nigeria for more than two decades, initially building its presence around telecommunications infrastructure before expanding into cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
With the Agentic AI Cloud launch, the company is now seeking to enhance the use of AI in Nigerian businesses by providing locally hosted infrastructure for developing and deploying AI-powered services.
