Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 Quick Thoughts

The Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 officially went on sale this month. Huawei is selling the device at Ksh.13,499 and you can grab one on Kilimall or other offline stores across the country.

The Y6 Prime 2019 is actually the second device in the Y Series Huawei has launched in 2019. We have already told you about the specs which you read about here. The device comes in three colours: Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and the Amber Brown which we have as a review unit thanks to the good people at Huawei.

I will spare my detailed experience of the device for my review to be published in the coming week. In this article, I am just going to share my unboxing and first impressions and tell you what you should expect should you decide to purchase the device.

First here is what you get in the box:

    • The Phone itself
    • Screen protector
    • User guide and some manual
    • USB Cable
  • Wall charger

The review unit package I had did not have a pair of earphones but I think you it should be included in the retail package, remember this is a review unit we got from Huawei’s local office.

As I mentioned we got the Amber brown Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 which is a very distinct colour if you ask me. You, however, have two additional colour options which include Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue.

I love the striking design on the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019. The front features a 6.09-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720×1560 pixels. Despite the screen being 6+ inches, it does not feel big and you can easily mistake it for a 5inch phone. The phone fits perfectly well in your hands

The DewDrop notch houses the 8-megapixels selfie camera for selfies which also features autofocus.

At the back, you have a 13-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture. The rear camera setup has autofocus. The camera is good, takes some good photos for the few times I have used it. It also has a pro mode which can be accessed by opening the phone’s default camera app and going through the list of modes available.

Check some sample images I took with the phone below. More photos are available on our Instagram page.

It’s also here that you have the fingerprint scanner to provide an extra layer of security for your phone. The fingerprint scanner is fast and very responsive. The device also comes with Face Unlock.

At the bottom, you have the microphone and a standards microUSB port. Again if you’re if you were expecting a USB Type C you might be disappointed. micro USB. The headphone jack is located at the top.

The volume and power buttons are all located on the right side while the opposite side houses separate slots for the two SIM cards and microSD card.
