YouTube is launching a music streaming service next week

YouTube is launching a new music streaming known as YouTube Music next week on May 22nd.

The company says the reimagined the reimagined mobile app and brand new desktop player will feature thousands of playlists, the official versions of millions of songs, albums, artist radio and more, in addition to all the music videos people expect from YouTube.

The app will also bring a personalized home screen that will dynamically adapt to provide recommendations based on people’s listening history, where they are and what they are doing.

The free YouTube Music app will be ad-supported as expected – but YouTube says it is also launching YouTube Music Premium, a paid membership that will give you background listening, downloads and ad-free experience for $9.99 a month.

The good thing is if you are a Play Music subscriber you will get the YouTube Music premium membership as part of your subscription each month. You will also still be able to access all your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music, nothing will change.

The new music service will see YouTube compete with the likes of Spotify which recently entered the South African market, Apple Music, its own Google Play Music and many other music streaming services.

Starting Tuesday, YouTube will be rolling out the new YouTube Music experience in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. The company says the servicer will expand more broadly in the coming weeks. It will also soon be launching in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
