Tecno Phonepad 7 II review and specifications

Well, Tecno Mobile thinks more Kenyans need to use affordable smartphones. Recently we have seen the company unveil a range of these new devices, first came the Tecno Boom J8, its music smartphone, followed by Tecno Camon C9 that was released just the other day and this is basically a camera phone.

The company is also of the opinion that more Kenyan consumers need affordable tablets and this iw why just this year alone the company has unveiled two tablets: The Tecno DroiPad 8 II which we got a chance to review here and the Tecno Phonepad 7 II. The Tecno DroiPad 8 II tablet was the first to be launched into the Kenyan market this year and was also Tecno Mobile’s first Android 5.0 Lollipop device. It was actually one of the cheapest tablets running on the latest version of the Android Operating System.

The company Tecno Phonepad 7 II is the most recent one and was launched into the Kenyan market close to a month ago. It is the device we will be reviewing in this article.  The Phonepad 7 II has been designed to function as a phone and a tablet at the same. You can read about the Phone 7 II specifications in our unboxing article HERE.

I have been interacting with the device for the last couple of weeks and my experience has been not that disappointing. Tag along as I give you a short detailed look into its specifications, features and reviews.

Design and Display

Just like the DroiPad 8 II, the Tecno Phonepad 7 II is an all metal device with a 7.0 – inch screen size and 600 x 1024 pixels resolution. It has a body dimension measuring 190 x 105 x 8.9 mm. For anybody looking for a tablet with a nice design and display, the Tecno Phonepad 7 II would be perfect choice considering the size. Unlike the DroiPad 8 II, the Phonepad 7 II can easily be carried around .

Performance, Storage and OS

The Tecno Phonepad 7 II comes with a powerful 64 -bit quad -core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. This is also paired with a 1 GB RAM making the tablet capable of delivering some good performance satisfactory to entry level users.

Most of us would expect any Android devices being released this year to come with Android v6.0 marshmallow, this is not the case with the Phonepad 7 II  as it comes with v5.1 lollipop.

The tablet is a Dual-SIM and comes with an internal storage of 16GB expandable to 32 GB using a microSD card. This should be enough for one to store more images and videos. The devices also features the new Tecno’s HiOS user interface. You should also expect all future Tecno devices to come with this UI which was first featured in the Tecno Boom J8 smartphone released early this year.
Camera

The Tecno PhonePad 7 II features a 5 megapixels autofocus rear camera with 720p HD video recording. The front camera on the other hand is 2 megapixels with flash for selfies. This camera arrangements is just similar to what we saw with the DroiPad 8 II.  Despite both of them having LED flash, they are not the best you can use to capture great moments. The selfie camera however will come in handy when having video calls, and of course selfies.

Battery

The Tecno Phonepad 7 II has a battery capacity of 4100 mAh which according to Tecno mobile is capable of supporting more than 30 days on standby when fully charged. It also supports 40 hours talk time, 12 hours browsing and 12 hours video playback.

Other features include a microUSB 2.0, GPS with Assisted GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n are for your connectivity needs. It also supports 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks for ultra-fast connections, downloads and sharing.

Pricing and Availability

The Tecno Phonepad 7 is currently available on Jumia and it will cost you Kshs.14,499 to get one. Tecno mobile did a good job when it comes to the material used in designing the tablet. Our interaction with it has given positive results in terms of performance and it is tablet we would recommend to anyone wishing to introduce himself to the tablet world.

You can buy one from Jumia HERE.
