Xiaomi enters the Kenyan Market, introduces the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
The Kenyan smartphone market has continued to experience substantial growth in recent years. This can be attributed to a strong climate change and increasing internet and mobile connectivity which has created a positive competitive landscape bringing more brands and cheaper devices into the market.
According to the latest sector statistics by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK), for the first quarter covering the period July to September 2015, Mobile subscriptions in the country grew to 37.8 million during the quarter after growing by an impressive 1.7 million subscriptions in the last quarter.
One of the latest Smartphone brand to enter the Kenyan market is Xiaomi mobile, the worlds 5th best Smartphone maker. The company unveiled the one of its products, the Redmi Note 2 into the market. The phone was first unveiled into the global market in October 2015. Kenya becomes the 3rd country Xiaomi is tapping into after Nigeria and South Africa, and according to the company the reception has been quite good.
Xiaomi says they have been keenly following the Smartphone trends in the Kenyan market and identified it as key to bring in their budget friendly devices.
By first introducing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi believes this could be the best way to give Kenyan consumers a taste of their products. Xiaomi goes ahead to declare that the Redmi Note 2 is another low-cost smartphone that promises to give the consumers a full Smartphone experience without them having to dig deep into their pockets.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920-pixel LCD display, a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795 system chip, 2GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage.
It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with the MIUI 7 user interface, and features a 3060 mAh battery. In terms of camera, the Xiaomi Red Note 2 comes with a 13-megapixel main camera with phase detection autofocus feature and a 5-megapixel front camera.
We managed to get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 when it was launched and I will be having the review before the end of the week. The phone will retail at Kshs.21,000 and it will be interesting to watch how the company, which has become a global brand will compete with other Smartphone companies in the market.
