Realme Becomes First Brand to Ship 100 Million Smartphones Globally

Realme has become the fastest smartphone brand ever to ship 100 million smartphones globally. This is according to a new report by Strategy Analytics, a market research consultancy.

Realme was launched in May 2018, and after four quarters, it has become the fastest-growing smartphone brand in the world in Q3 2019. In a short period, the company got into the top 7 smartphone brands globally, registering over 800% annual growth. Shortly after, realme kept positioning itself as the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand for four consecutive quarters. The 7th largest smartphone brand has footprints in over 60 different markets worldwide including Kenya.

The company entered the Kenyan market in August 2020. It has quite a range of devices. In total, the company has four smartphone series lineups including Number Series, X Series, Pro Series, and the C Series. In February this year, it announced that it’s targeting to increase their sales by at least 30 per cent in 2021.

In four months, in 2020, realme released the realme C3, realme C11, realme C15, realme C12, realme 6, and realme 7i, realme band realme Buds Q, and realme Buds Air Neo, that leaned more on design, quality, fashion, trendsetting and appealing to Kenya’s younger generation.

Targeting global youths and young professionals as a consumer group has allowed realme to leapfrog many well-known brands, as this group has been over-promised but underserved, according to realme’s CEO, Sky Li. “Young people, both our consumers and our staff, have taught us to dare to leap into the future and be trendsetters, giving us the courage to disrupt a well-entrenched industry.”

The latest data from Strategy Analytics means realme has shipped more smartphones globally faster than every other brand including Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Nokia, and even Huawei. This growth has been driven mostly by its smartphone shipments in China and India.

Realme’s CEO, Sky Li says the company aims to reach an additional 100 million sales by the end of 2022, and ship 100 million units in the year of 2023.
