Safaricom Extends Bonga For Good Program By 30 Days

Safaricom is extending its Bonga For Good campaign for an extra 30 days. That means the program will now end on June 3rd. The telco says the extension is to allow more customers to redeem their Bonga points in exchange for various goods and services, plus be able to donate to the unfortunate.

The program has proved beneficial in the current unprecedented times, allowing customers to get some extra cash for buying food, medicine, personal protective equipment, farm input, and even payment of utility bills. Through the program, customers have been able to redeem Bonga points at 30 cents per point instead of the usual 20 cents, which bumps up the value of their points a little bit.

Bonga For Good has also enabled customers to redeem as little as KES 1 via Lipa na Bonga at supported retailers.

Since the start of the program on 3rd April 2020, more than 200,000 customers have redeemed 670 million points worth over KES 200 million, according to the telco.

The campaign has also enabled corporates to donate their points to employees as well as charity organizations to help them continue accessing essential goods like food.

“By extending the initiative for a second month, we want to further support our customers to tap into the value of their Bonga Points to assist those in need as sign of goodwill,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO.
