Google Cloud has launched Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, a new AI platform aimed at helping banks and capital markets firms minimize the time employees spend on research, compliance checks and other repetitive tasks.
The platform is initially available in preview for capital markets and corporate banking institutions. It brings together a Google-managed Financial Research agent, more than 50 specialized AI skills and connectors to financial data sources.
For financial professionals, the appeal is straightforward; instead of spending hours searching through market reports, regulatory filings and internal databases, they can use AI to gather and organize the information in one place.
The Financial Research agent is designed to produce research that can be checked against its sources. Google Cloud said its outputs include source citations, confidence scores, data snapshots and details on the methods used to reach its conclusions.
The platform can also support tasks such as customer research, portfolio monitoring, credit risk analysis and Know Your Customer (KYC) investigations. It connects with data providers including LSEG, FactSet, Moody’s, MSCI, PitchBook, S&P Global and SEC Edgar.
Google Cloud is also focusing on the technology’s use in real-world banking decisions. For example, financial teams can use it to assess bond portfolio risks after market shocks, identify potential opportunities in credit markets or speed up the preparation of client pitches.
Deutsche Bank is among the early users and worked with Google Cloud as a design partner for the Financial Research agent. The bank plans to use the technology in its Corporate Bank to better understand customer needs, identify relevant products and track market developments.
CME Group is also using the solution, while other financial institutions including BNY, Citi Wealth, Lloyds Banking Group, Macquarie Bank and Signal Iduna are already using Gemini Enterprise.
The bigger challenge for banks, however, is making AI useful without losing control of sensitive information. Google Cloud said the platform includes governance, audit logging and risk controls designed for regulated financial institutions.
Ultimately, the move reflects a broader change in financial services, where AI is shifting from a tool for drafting and summarizing information to systems that can take on more complex tasks.
