Kenya's Tech Leaders Stand Out in BD's Top 40 Under 40 Women 2026

The Top 40 Under 40 Women list has long celebrated rising business leaders, but this year’s edition reveals another story. Artificial intelligence, software engineering, digital transformation, mobility platforms and data science feature prominently among the 2026 honourees, underscoring how technology is producing some of Kenya’s most influential young professionals.

While the annual awards recognise achievement across multiple industries, the 2026 cohort reflects the growing influence of technology in sectors well beyond Silicon Savannah’s startup circles.

Several of this year’s honourees represent companies and organisations at the centre of Kenya’s digital economy.

Among them is Lorna Ogolla Omondi, Partnerships Lead at Google Research Africa, whose work focuses on expanding artificial intelligence collaborations across the continent.

The list also recognises Rose Njeri Tunguru, a software developer known for using technology to address civic and social challenges, alongside Mercy Omollo, Director of IT and Digital Transformation at Isuzu East Africa, where enterprise technology has become part of business strategy rather than simply operational support.

Their inclusion illustrates how technology leadership now spans multinational research labs, manufacturing, software development and corporate transformation.

Artificial intelligence appears alongside more established technology disciplines in this year’s class.

Google Research Africa’s presence reflects Kenya’s role in AI research, while digital transformation leadership at Isuzu East Africa highlights how traditional industries continue to modernise through cloud platforms, enterprise systems and data-driven decision-making.

The awards also recognised Linet Kwamboka Nyang’au, founder of Data Science Limited, whose company works at the intersection of analytics, machine learning and business intelligence.

Together, these professionals represent different parts of Kenya’s digital ecosystem, from research and software development to enterprise technology and commercial data services.

The startup ecosystem also features prominently.

Norah Kimathi, co-founder of Zerobionic, was recognised for developing assistive technology designed to improve mobility and accessibility.

Meanwhile, Caroline Mutuku, Managing Director of Glovo Kenya, represents the platform economy, where technology powers logistics, digital commerce and last-mile delivery.

Although the companies operate in different industries, they share a common thread: using technology to solve practical business and consumer problems.

That mix reflects a broader innovation landscape where founders and executives are building products for healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, accessibility and enterprise customers rather than focusing on a single technology vertical.

The awards themselves remain a celebration of individual achievement, but the composition of this year’s class offers another perspective.

Technology professionals are no longer confined to startup rankings or specialist industry awards. They are earning recognition alongside leaders in healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing and entrepreneurship, reflecting how digital capabilities now cut across nearly every sector of the economy.

Business Daily received more than 1,000 nominations for this year’s awards before judges narrowed the field to 181 candidates and ultimately selected 40 winners.

For Kenya’s technology ecosystem, that outcome reinforces a broader reality: innovation is no longer defined solely by startup funding rounds or product launches. It is also measured by leadership, commercial execution and the ability to solve real-world challenges at scale.

Viewed through that lens, the technology professionals on the Business Daily Top 40 Under 40 Women 2026 list are not simply award winners. They represent the breadth of talent shaping Kenya’s next chapter in artificial intelligence, software, digital infrastructure and technology-led business.
