Visa, Kenya Airways and Absa Launch Premium Asante Global Card in Kenya

Visa, Kenya Airways and Absa have launched the Asante Global Card, the first co-branded travel-lifestyle credit card in the Kenyan market.

The card targets professionals, frequent travellers and premium banking customers, converting everyday spending into travel and lifestyle rewards under the “Your Life Rewarded” campaign.

It is the first product in Kenya to unite an airline, a bank and a payments network, combining Kenya Airways’ route network, Absa’s local banking reach and Visa’s global acceptance.

Customers earn Asante Rewards Points on their purchases, redeemable across the Kenya Airways network. The name combines Asante, the Swahili word for gratitude, with Global, a reference to its use across the Visa network worldwide.

Visa Country Manager for Kenya John Njoroge said the card responds to rising demand from Kenyan consumers for products that reward how they already spend and travel.

“That demand is being driven by a generation that is earning more, travelling more and expecting more from the cards in their wallets. The Asante Global Card responds to that directly,” he said.

Points accrue on all transactions, from everyday purchases such as groceries, fuel and dining to travel and international payments.

Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu said the card extends the airline’s push to make travel more rewarding.

“This co-branded card allows customers to earn travel rewards through their everyday spending. It turns daily transactions into opportunities for flight awards, point conversions and exclusive benefits across our network and partner airlines,” he said.

Absa Bank Kenya Consumer Banking Director Moses Muthui said the launch aligns with the lender’s regional purpose of “Empowering Africa’s Tomorrow, together.”

“Through innovative partnerships such as this, we are helping to unlock opportunities and connect people to the experiences that matter most, wherever in the world their journey takes them,” he said.

New Asante Global Signature cardholders will receive a welcome bonus of 10,000 Asante Rewards Points, while Asante Global Platinum cardholders will receive 5,000 points.

Cardholders also get complimentary airport lounge access, travel and medical insurance, additional baggage allowance and SkyPriority services worldwide, alongside curated experiences such as golf tournaments and wine tastings and discounts with local and international lifestyle partners.

The Asante Global Card becomes available to eligible customers from 1st September, with applications open at asante.kenya-airways.com.
