TECNO has launched the POVA Curve 2 5G in Kenya, bringing one of its most ambitious POVA devices to the local market as smartphone brands compete on battery life, AI features and premium design rather than price alone.
The new handset arrives with a combination that immediately stands out: an 8,000mAh battery housed inside a curved body measuring 7.42mm thick and weighing about 195g. TECNO says the POVA Curve 2 5G is the world’s slimmest curved-display 5G smartphone with an 8,000mAh battery, a claim that underpins the device’s positioning for users who want multi-day battery life without carrying a bulky phone.
The launch also expands TECNO’s premium ambitions within the POVA lineup. While the series has traditionally appealed to gamers and power users, the company is now targeting a broader audience that includes entrepreneurs, content creators and professionals who rely on their smartphones throughout the day.
“Across Kenya, young people are building businesses, growing careers, creating brands and moving between multiple opportunities every day. Their smartphones must be able to keep up without forcing them to choose between power, design and personal identity,” said Mildred Agoya, Marketing Manager at TECNO Kenya.
A Bigger Battery Without a Bigger Phone
Battery capacity forms the centrepiece of the POVA Curve 2 5G. TECNO says the device is built to reduce the need for frequent charging, whether users are working remotely, travelling, streaming video, creating content or spending long hours on mobile data.
The handset supports 45W wired charging, 10W reverse charging and Bypass Charge 2.0, which directs power to the phone during demanding tasks instead of repeatedly cycling the battery. The company has also included battery health features designed to maintain long-term performance.
Achieving that capacity without substantially increasing the phone’s size appears to be one of the device’s biggest engineering achievements. Independent early hands-on impressions have also highlighted the unusually slim and lightweight design for a phone carrying such a large battery.
Display, Performance and AI Take a Larger Role
Beyond battery life, the POVA Curve 2 5G offers a feature set that places it closer to upper mid-range devices than previous generations of the POVA series.
The smartphone features a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 7i protection and peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. Powering the device is MediaTek’s Dimensity 7100 processor, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
TECNO is also extending its Practical AI strategy to the POVA lineup. The phone ships with Android 16 and HiOS 16, bringing AI-powered tools such as Ask Ella, AI Writing, AI Call Summary, AI Image Extender, AI Eraser 2.0, Circle to Search and other productivity features that help users edit content, manage information and complete everyday tasks directly on the device.
That marks a broader software push than the Kenyan launch announcement suggests, with AI becoming a core part of the phone’s overall value proposition alongside battery endurance.
Built Around Connectivity
TECNO has also focused on improving connectivity for users who frequently move between offices, shopping centres, public transport and other areas where mobile reception can fluctuate.
The POVA Curve 2 5G combines dual signal enhancement chipsets with support for 5G and eSIM connectivity. Additional software and antenna optimisations are designed to improve network stability while navigation enhancements and device-to-device communication features further expand the phone’s capabilities.
For users who depend on their smartphones for work and communication, those additions complement the device’s battery-first design rather than competing with it.
Pricing and Availability
The TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G is available through official TECNO stores, authorised dealers, operator partners and online retail channels across Kenya.
The smartphone carries a recommended retail price of KSh59,999, with customers able to secure pre-orders using a KSh2,000 deposit. TECNO is also bundling a 180-day broken screen warranty alongside a 12+1 month device warranty.
The POVA Curve 2 5G arrives in a crowded mid-range market where bigger batteries have often meant thicker devices. TECNO is betting that combining multi-day endurance with a slimmer design and a growing suite of AI features will help the POVA brand compete on more than just price.
