Meta's New Muse Image Shows How AI Is Becoming Part of Everyday Apps

The new in-house model adds conversational image creation, editing and advertising tools while reflecting the company's broader effort to embed generative AI across its platforms.


Meta has officially stepped deeper into the generative AI race with the launch of their new model the Muse Image, its first fully in-house AI image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), marking one of the company’s biggest artificial intelligence announcements of the year.

Beyond creating images from text prompts, Muse Image is designed to understand the user’s context, edit photos naturally and eventually to shape how people create content across Meta’s family apps.

Meta Positions Muse Image at the Center of Its AI Strategy

This launch comes as the competition in the AI creativity reaches new heights with OpenAI, Google, Adobe and Midjourney all racing to built the next generation of AI powered creative tools. Rather than simply matching its rivals, Meta is betting that billions of users who are using WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and messenger will be able to make use of Muse Image as part of their everyday digital lives.

“Muse Image acts as the creative partner that knows your world, making it easy to turn your ideas into high-quality visuals that you can download and share anywhere,” Meta said while introducing the new model.

How Muse Image Goes Beyond Text-to-Image Generation

Unlike many image generators that solely rely on written prompts, Muse Image can interpret complex instructions, combine multiple reference images, edit photos using simple sketches and even generate images containing readable texts. The model also remembers previous prompts within conversations allowing users to refine designs without starting from scratch. Meta says this conversational approach makes image creation feel more natural and intuitive.

Meta Expands AI Creativity Across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Another feature which is setting Muse Image apart is its integration across Meta’s ecosystem. Users can now generate images directly within Meta AI, create Instagram story effects, edit existing photos and even use public Instagram content as creative inspiration while respecting the user’s privacy controls. The company is gradually expanding this power across WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger.

Muse Image Could Reshape AI Advertising for Businesses

For businesses, the launch has proven to be more significant. Meta confirmed that Muse Image will soon power new advertising experiences through Advantage+ Creative, allowing brands and agencies to generate campaign visuals, personalize advertisements and produce marketing assets in minutes instead of days. As businesses increasingly adopt to AI assisted marketing, the move is positioning Meta to compete not only in consumer AI but also in the fast-growing market for AI-powered advertising.

The launch has also signaled Meta’s growing confidence in developing its own AI models rather than relying on external technology. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and Adobe Firefly have dominated conversations around generative AI, Muse Image represents Meta’s strongest attempt yet to build a homegrown creative platform capable of competing at the highest level.

Muse Video Offers a Glimpse of Meta’s Next AI Push

Meta also offered an early glimpse of what’s coming next. Alongside Muse Image, the company also announced an early preview of Muse Video, its upcoming AI video generation. Although still under development, Meta said that the model already delivers promising results in prompt accuracy, visual quality and realistic motion, with improvements underway before a wider release.

“Images are just the beginning. With Muse Video already in development, Meta is building entirely new ways for you to bring your ideas to life, getting one step closer to personal superintelligence,” the company said.

With AI quickly becoming the foundation of digital creativity, Muse Image is more than another image generator. It is Meta’s clearest signal yet that the future of content creation, social media and digital advertising will be powered by AI and that the company intends to be at the centre of it.
