Ride-hailing platform inDrive has rolled out a new Trip Audio Recording feature aimed at enhancing safety for both passengers and drivers by providing additional support when disputes arise during journeys.
How the Trip Audio Recording Feature Works
The feature, accessible through the app’s Safety Center, allows either party to manually start an audio recording before or during a trip. According to inDrive, the recordings are designed to serve as supporting evidence in the event of complaints involving issues such as disagreements over pick-up locations, extended waiting times or alleged damage that may occur during a ride.
Unlike continuous recording systems, inDrive said the feature operates only when a user actively enables it. The company emphasized that the app does not automatically record conversations or capture audio in the background, giving users full control over when recordings begin.
Privacy and Encryption Protect Recorded Audio
To safeguard users’ privacy, inDrive said all recorded audio is protected using encryption, preventing passengers and drivers from listening to, downloading or sharing the files themselves. The company explained that the recordings can only be accessed through a secure encryption key during the investigation of official complaints submitted via the platform.
In addition, inDrive stated that the audio files are not shared with third parties unless disclosure is required under applicable laws or legal processes.
New Safety Tool Supports Riders and Drivers
Furthermore, the introduction of the feature forms part of the company’s broader efforts to strengthen safety measures within its platform while balancing user privacy. By allowing recordings only when initiated by the rider or driver, inDrive aims to offer an additional layer of protection without introducing continuous monitoring during trips.
The company noted that the availability of audio recordings can help provide greater confidence to both passengers and drivers, even in situations where the recordings are never required as part of a complaint or investigation. Knowing that an interaction can be documented if necessary may contribute to a safer and more transparent ride experience for everyone involved.
Additionally, users can access the Trip Audio Recording feature through the Safety Center within the inDrive app, where it can be activated either before a journey begins or at any point during an ongoing trip. The feature gives riders and drivers another safety option while ensuring that recordings remain secure and are used only for resolving official disputes when needed.
