Absa Bank Kenya Taps Gen Z Connect for Youth Leadership Drive

Monthly forums will bring together business leaders and emerging professionals as financial institutions compete to build stronger relationships with the country's youthful workforce.

Absa Bank Kenya has announced a strategic partnership with Gen Z Connect by Executive Connect to expand opportunities for young professionals and entrepreneurs through leadership development, financial literacy and entrepreneurship programmes.

The partnership, institutionalized through a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will see the two organizations host monthly engagements aimed at equipping young people with practical skills needed to navigate the evolving world of work, build businesses and make informed financial decisions.

The initiative will be implemented under Absa’s NextGen offering within its Consumer Banking business and is expected to provide participants with direct access to industry leaders, business executives and financial experts.

The monthly sessions will cover a range of topics including leadership and personal development, financial management, entrepreneurship, career readiness, digital innovation, financial technology and problem-solving. The programme is designed to respond to the growing demand for practical mentorship and career development opportunities among Kenya’s youth.

Speaking during the signing of the agreement, Absa Bank Kenya Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Mwihaki Wachira, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to investing in the country’s young population by helping them develop the skills and financial knowledge required to succeed.

She noted that beyond providing banking services, Absa aims to position young people as active contributors to economic growth by improving access to financial education, entrepreneurial support and leadership opportunities.

Gen Z Connect, an initiative that is under Executive Connect, has established a network of more than 300 young professionals and entrepreneurs and has built an online community of over 2,000 members on LinkedIn. The platform focuses on mentorship, networking, entrepreneurship development and leadership programmes targeting emerging professionals and business founders.

Executive Connect patron Byron Osiro said the partnership brings together two organizations with a shared focus on preparing young people for future economic opportunities.

This partnership with Absa represents a powerful alignment of purpose. At Gen Z Connect, we are deeply committed to unlocking the potential of young people by equipping them with practical skills, access to opportunities, and the confidence to lead. By working together, we are combining our strengths to deliver a programme that not only empowers youth and entrepreneurs but also prepares them to actively shape the future of financial services and drive sustainable economic growth across our communities,” he noted.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of an Executive Connect Leadership Forum in Nairobi. While the programme will begin with activities in Nairobi, the partners plan to extend the initiative to Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Nyeri as they broaden their outreach across the country.

The partnership comes at a time when financial institutions are increasingly investing in youth-focused programmes that combine financial inclusion with entrepreneurship and digital skills development, reflecting the growing importance of Kenya’s young population in driving innovation and long-term economic growth.
