Samsung Galaxy A36 Officially Launched: Faster and Smarter

Samsung has officially launched its much-anticipated Galaxy A36, featuring several upgrades from the previous version, the Galaxy A35.
The latest member of the Galaxy A series is designed to be attractive and comes with improved performance and camera capabilities with longer software support. This means that mid-range smartphone users would have another good option to consider.
Refined Design and Display
Measuring 162.7 x 77.9 x 7.4 mm and weighing 195g, the Samsung Galaxy A36 has a new shiny look, making it more subtle and lighter from the previous Galaxy A35. With a glass front protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+, it has a plastic frame and glass back that makes it affordable- and at the same time premium-feel quality. And just like its predecessor, the A36 also retains the IP67 dust and water resistance feature.
Samsung has also made some subtle yet important changes in the display. The Galaxy A36 has a slightly bigger Super AMOLED display, at 6.7 inches, than the previous model of 6.6 inches. Both screens feature a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2340, but the A36 claims even better with 1,200 nits brightness capacity for better outdoor visibility.
Samsung Galaxy A36 Performance Boost with Snapdragon Power
The biggest improvement with the Samsung Galaxy A36 is its processor. While Samsung’s Exynos 1380 chipset powered the A35, the A36 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, manufactured on a newer, more efficient 4nm process. This allows for better performance and battery efficiency, which makes the A36 a better performer while playing games, multitasking, and general user experience.
The device comes with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, along with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The microSD card slot has been removed from the A35; thus, users will now depend solely on the internal storage.
Samsung Galaxy A36 Upgraded Camera System
Refinements made to the A36’s cameras include a triple-camera setup with a 50MP primary that is OIS enabled, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro sensor. The A36 now flaunts a new upgraded 12MP front-facing camera. This design has been borrowed from the Galaxy S24 series.
Faster Charging, Same Reliable Battery
The new Galaxy A36 comes with the same 5,000mAh battery that the A35 has but with improved charging to 45W from 25W. This means users can charge their phones way faster now.
Extended Software Support and AI Features
A top highlight of the Galaxy A36 is Samsung’s focus on software lifespan. While the A35 was launched with Android 14 and will get four major updates, the A36 comes with Android 15 and One UI 7 and will get six major OS updates and six years of security patches. This makes it one of the best-supported mid-range smartphones out there.
Samsung has integrated an array of AI features on the A36 for enhanced photo editing and circle-to-search functions, giving this device greater intelligence and intuitiveness in everyday usage.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy A36 is priced at $ 399, just like the launch price of the A35. Local pricing is expected to start around Ksh 52,000.
