Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus Officially Unveiled with 50W Wireless Charging

Starts at a premium price of ~Ksh 116,000

Huawei has announced the latest iteration of its Mate Series smartphone lineup. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Series follows the same principles as the other iterations before it.

The Mate 40 series is not only the most powerful phones of the series yet but is among the first few phones on the market running a processor crafted with the 5nm node.

It marks the debut of Huawei’s flagship 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset with 5G support and massive improvements from its predecessor. Huawei claims Kirin 9000 is the world’s first 5 nanometer 5G SoC.

The Mate 40 series is covered in a new look which the company calls Space Ring Design.

Under the hood, Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage while the regular Mate 40 Pro 8/256GB memory configuration.

Both models have a 6.76-inch 90Hz FHD+(2772 x 1344 Pixels) OLED display, 4,400mAh battery (66W wired, and 50W wireless charging), in-display optical fingerprint sensor, and a 13 MP ultrawide selfie camera.  They also include IP68 dust and water resistance.

On the rear, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ includes a 50MP primary camera, a 20MP ultra-wide, and 8MP periscope and a 12MP telephoto camera. The periscope lens can zoom 10X while the telephoto can do 3X optical zoom. However, the company says you can perform up to 17X optical zoom on the device.

The Mate 40 Pro, on the other hand, has three cameras on the rear. Huawei maintained the same 50MP primary and 20MP ultra-wide camera, and the periscope here can only do 5x zoom optically.

Huawei’s Mate 40 series also has a third model without the Pro moniker with a relatively small 6.5-inch FHD 90Hz display, a less powerful Kirin 9000E processor and less versatile camera setup.

Huawei Mate 40 also includes similar selfie camera as the Pro versions, 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB internal storage, and a 4200mAh battery with 40W wired fast charging.

The camera setup includes an identical 50MP primary camera, an 8MP telephoto, and a 16MP ultrawide.

All the three models boot from EMUI 11 based on Android 10 but without Google apps.
