Jumia Black Friday Goes Live, Over 100,000 customers log in

The 2019 Jumia Black Friday finally kicked off last night Thursday, November 9th. Jumia Black Friday went live at exactly 11:59 and is expected to run for 3 weeks and Jumia seems to have recorded some impressive numbers just as it had predicted.

Addressing the press this morning, Jumia Kenya CEO Sam Chappatte indicated they started off the campaign on an exciting note.

“Customers from all over the country logged on to our site at midnight to join us for the launch of Black Friday 2019. With 100s of orders in the first minutes, from all over the country, it was an exciting moment. The event will run until 29th November, with great deals and daily surprises for everyone” he said.

During the three weeks, Jumia customers will enjoy savings of up to 90% on some of the 10 million products listed on the site.

Jumia Black Friday Highlights

The first order at Go Live midnight done within 10 seconds was a 24” TV Hifinit to a female customer in Nyeri who opted for it to be delivered to Transerve Pick Up station in Nyeri.

The first boda boda customers to buy motorbikes from Car and General at Kes 100 were from Kajiado, Nairobi and Mukuru Kwa Njenga. The company had over 100 orders in the first one minute (of which 33 were televisions) and up to 3000 orders in the 1st hour.

Best selling products in day one is Kabras 2kg sugar retailing for Kes 50, followed by 2kg Unga at Kes 72, Handwashing powder and Television Sets.

75% of traffic came from Jumia App within the first hour, with the rest split between Mobile Web and Desktop. This is good since Jumia has really been pushing for users to download the app.

Today, Jumia also held a live flash sale at one of its pickup stations at Kantaria House in Nairobi to ‘’…empower its customers to shop online’’ Jumia says as much as it’s an online shop, it believes not everyone is able to get online.

‘’We wanted to highlight the convenience of our pickup station by doing a special flash sale at Kantaria House’’

How you can take advantage of Black Friday

As I mentioned customers will be able to enjoy savings of up to 90% on the 10 million products listed on the website. This could be through the normal Black Friday deals as well as flash sales.

With flash sales, Jumia places a great product, at a great price online with limited stock. From Monday to Friday there will be 4 flash sales. Friday being Jumia’s being the biggest day there will be 8 flash sales while on Saturday and Sunday there will only be flash sales in the morning.

Remember to get the most out of the upcoming sale, downloading the mobile app is recommended. Deals will be running from as early as 9.00 AM, and the company also says “extra surprises” will be available every Friday throughout the period (8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th).
