Our OPPO A9 2020 Top and Favorite Features

After successfully launching the Reno 2 series in Kenya, OPPO has also brought the new OPPO A Series 2020 into the country. The brand new OPPO A Series 2020, which includes the OPPO A9 2020 and OPPO A5 2020 models, is the brand’s latest offer for the mid-level smartphone market.

The devices are currently available for pre-order locally and ends on December 24th. We managed to get our hands on the OPPO A9 2020, thanks to the good people at OPPO Kenya and I have been using it for like a week now. OPPO is selling the device for Ksh. 29,999 bringing some serious competition in the mid-segment smartphone market in Kenya.

This is not a review article, we will have one up in the coming weeks. In this article, I will just be highlighting my favourite features on the device. Features that might prompt me to actually spend my money on this OPPO device.

Design

OPPO A9 2020

OPPO scores some good marks when it comes to the overall design of the OPPO A9 2020. The design and build quality is classy. The dual-colour 3D gradient designs make the device stand out from previous OPPO devices.

OPPO says its 3D ergonomic body was designed for a better grip and thinner visual appearance. The curved finish looks really good and provides and easy-to-hold experience.

The bottom houses a 3.5mm audio interface, USB-C port and speaker grille.

OPPO A9 2020 Display

The OPPO A9 2020 comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ display panel with a resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels and a screen-to-body ratio of 89 percent. We are also getting a waterdrop notch. There are other features like screen colour temperature adjustment, night shield and auto-brightness. I never had problems with the screen brightness even when using the phone under direct sunlight.

Performance

The OPPO A9 2020 features Snapdragon 665 SoC with an Octa-core CPU clocked up to 2.0GHz and Adreno 610 GPU.  With 8GB of RAM, Snapdragon 665 provides faster performances.  The device runs Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6.0.1.

The device as we earlier stated comes with 8GB of RAM and 126GB of internal storage. 128GB is big, enough to store all your files. You also get a dedicated microSD card slot that supports cards of up to 126GB.

Quad-camera setup

OPPO A9 2020 Camera modes

The camera offers you multiple modes including Night, Pano, Expert, Time-Lapse, Slo-Mo, Sticker and baked-in Google Lens. Of course, you still get the usual Video, and Photo modes.

Other camera features include  HDR, Dazzle Color and built-in filters. We’re also getting a zoom button with options for 2X and 5X digital zoom.

The 16MP selfie camera features AI beautification and portrait mode giving you some pretty sharp and good selfies.

Battery

The OPPO A9 2020 is powered by a powerful 5000mAh battery and also supports reverse charging. What this means is that you can use as a power bank to charge another smartphone. The review unit we got from OPPO did not come with a charger inside the box but should you decide to purchase the device, you will be getting a 10W charger which according to the company charges the device from 0 to 100% in about an hour and a half.

The device also supports a Type-C port.

Availability

The OPPO A9 2020 is available in Marine Green, Space Purple colours and is selling at for Ksh. 29,999. You can pre-order one now from any OPPO branded retail shops across the country.

Remember as I mentioned this is not a full review, but we should have one up in the coming weeks.
