Ex-Absa boss Abdi Mohamed officially takes over at I&M Bank

Former Absa Bank Kenya chief executive Abdi Mohamed has officially taken over as the head of I&M Bank Kenya after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Mr Mohamed assumed office on Monday, October 5, and will lead the lender’s Kenya business with a focus on customer relationships, growth and the bank’s ongoing transformation.

He takes over from Kihara Maina, who had been serving as interim chief executive and now returns to his role as I&M Group regional chief executive.

“The Board is pleased to welcome Abdi to I&M Group and is confident that his extensive banking experience, strong leadership credentials and deep understanding of the Kenyan and regional financial services landscape will be instrumental in leading the Bank through its next phase of growth,” said I&M Group executive director Sarit Raja Shah.

Mr Mohamed joins I&M from Absa Bank Kenya, where he served as country chief executive and managing director. He has more than three decades of experience in banking and financial services.

Mr Mohamed chairs the UN Global Compact Network Kenya and sits on the governing council of the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA)
