Vodacom Group has appointed former Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Chief Executive Officer Leila Fourie as an alternate director to board chairman Saki Macozoma, effective October 9, 2026.
Fourie will hold the alternate director position until Macozoma retires on July 20, 2027. She will then join the Vodacom board as a full director.
The appointment adds extensive experience in financial services, payments, investment banking and capital markets to Vodacom’s leadership. Fourie served as JSE CEO from 2019 to 2026, overseeing the exchange during a period of significant changes across financial markets and digital finance.
Before joining the JSE, she was CEO of the Australian Payments Network and held several senior positions at Standard Bank Group. Her previous roles included Managing Director of the bank’s Card Division and Global Director of Credit Analytics and Portfolio Management.
Fourie has also held executive and board positions in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia. Her governance experience includes leadership roles with the UN Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance, Diners Club South Africa and the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative.
She currently serves as an independent non-executive director at Australian payments company Cuscal Limited. She is also a board member of the United Nations Global Compact, WWF South Africa and Youth Employment Service (YES).
Vodacom said its board completed the required fit-and-proper assessment under the JSE Listings Requirements and was satisfied with the results. The company also reported no matters requiring disclosure concerning the integrity information in Fourie’s director declaration.
Following her appointment, Fourie will join Vodacom’s Nomination Committee and Remuneration Committee. Macozoma will chair the Nomination Committee, while CB Thomson will continue to chair the Remuneration Committee.
Fourie holds a Ph.D. in Economic and Financial Sciences from the University of Johannesburg.
