Liquid, Christian Aid, and IBM Partner to Boost Digital Skills in Kenya

Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a Cassava Technologies company, has teamed up with Christian Aid and IBM for a digital upskilling workshop in Kenya. The workshop was aimed at tackling Africa’s sustainable development challenges through technology.
The design-thinking-led initiative brought together 42 participants from 17 partner organisations, including teams from Christian Aid offices in Kenya, South Sudan, Nigeria, and the DRC. The goal: to build digital literacy and ICT capacity aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“At Liquid, we believe digital transformation is the key to Africa’s future,” said Neeraj Pradhan, Acting CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies Kenya. “ By working with Christian Aid and IBM to equip communities in Kenya with the skills to leverage technology, we’re driving innovation and fostering sustainable growth that will have a lasting global and local impact.”
Christian Aid supports communities across Kenya in areas such as climate resilience, governance, and gender justice. This initiative adds a digital layer to that work, helping partner organisations leverage tech-driven approaches to social and economic development.
“As ESG planning becomes increasingly critical, this collaboration represents an opportunity to combine knowledge, expertise, finance, tools, and resources to enhance ESG’s impact through ICT innovation,‘’ said Janet Ngombalu, Country Director for Christian Aid Kenya. ‘’Participants gained unique insights into leveraging technology for sustainable development and ensuring solutions are culturally relevant and scalable.”
IBM brought in its SkillsBuild platform, providing free training on design thinking and emerging tech like AI. The program is part of IBM’s global push to train two million people in AI by 2026, helping close the digital skills gap across the continent.
“As we enter 2025, AI is rapidly becoming central to every aspect of business. While this transformation creates unprecedented opportunities, it also highlights a critical need: professionals equipped with the latest AI skills,’’ said John Matogo, IBM’s CSR Leader for the Middle East and Africa.
“AI is transforming every industry, but to truly benefit, we need a workforce prepared for this shift,” said John Matogo, IBM’s CSR Leader for the Middle East and Africa.
This collaboration highlights the growing role of cross-sector partnerships in driving Kenya’s digital transformation.
