HMD is launching the Nokia XR20 5G, its first life proof phone, today

HMD Global, the Home of Nokia phones, is preparing to launch a new phone on July 27th. The company is not giving much details about this device but from the leaks that are all over the interwebs, the phone model will be called Nokia XR20 5G.

For this device, HMD Global says it’s preparing a special launch.

HMD says a footballing legend will join freestyle champion, Lisa Zimouche, to put a new life-proof phone through a series of high-impact challenges.

Gopher Ogembo, Senior Business Manager Kenya & East Africa, HMD Global, said: “Our latest phone is tougher than the status quo, it’s built for everything life can throw at it, literally. And it is about to take on its toughest match yet.’’

HMD Global is promoting this phone as the “phone we won’t need to cover”. It will be a midrange phone with an extra-strong case.  (See featured image).

The image shows a dark blue phone, covered with water drops, alluding to an IP68 certification. As we mentioned, Nokia might be calling this phone, the Nokia XR20 5G, probably derived from the Nokia X20. (We have the Nokia X20 review unit).

At the back, we have a square-mode camera, not circular like what we have on the Nokia X20.

Nokia has also posted a photo on its official social media handles teasing the phone. In the photo, the Nokia XR20 was clicked after being dropped into a container filled with ice cubes and water.

Leaks suggest that the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G platform and Android 11. At the back, we will be getting a 48 MP primary camera and another 13 MP camera, and an 8 MP camera on the front for selfies.

The Nokia XR20 5G packs a 4630 mAh battery and will come in 4 or 6 GB of RAM options coupled with 128 GB of internal storage.

For the pricing, we expect HMD Global to price the phone at the same price it’s selling the Nokia 8.3 5G.

As I mentioned the phone will officially be launched on Tuesday 27th, we will be sharing all the other details on the launch date.
