OPPO A92 Review: Deserves your consideration

OPPO A92 Review: OPPO made the OPPO A92 officially available in the Kenyan market in May this year. Well, we have interacted and reviewed so many devices from the company here on TechTrendsKE and the A92 really stands out. Of course we cannot also rule out the OPPO Reno3 which which we also really loved. The Reno 3  was also launched this year.

OPPO is selling the A92 at Ksh.30,000, and what do you really get from this? A 6.5-inch display with FHD+ resolution(1080 x 2400) display with a tiny circular notch on the top left corner of the display where a 16MP camera with an f/2.0 lens is placed, 8GB of memory and 128GB of onboard storage which can be expanded via a dedicated microSD card slot, a 48MP lens at the lead for rear photos coupled with three other camera lenses; one for ultra-wide shots, another for macro shots, and the last one for depth sensing.

Other key specs include; USB Type C interface, 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging technology,  Android 10.01 with ColorOS 7.1, 11nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, and a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side.

We already did the unboxing article for you which you can read here. You can also watch our unboxing video below:

The specs we have highlighted above are really good for a phone at that price. So, what did we really like about the phone?

The Camera

Any OPPO smartphone user will agree with me that OPPO really does a good job when it comes to phone cameras and OPPO always tries to push and put emphasis on this using their ‘’OPPO Camera Phone’’ tagline.

The OPPO A92 does not disappoint. As earlier mentioned, the phone features a 48MP lens which is at the lead for rear photos coupled with three other camera lenses; one for ultra-wide shots, another for macro shots, and the last one for depth sensing. The selfie camera on the other hand is 16MP.

The camera features different modes such as a 5x Zoom, portrait mode for taking  those awesome looking shots as well a dedicated night mode for use when there’s little light. See sample shots we took with the phone below:

Battery Life

Any smartphone user will tell you how much battery life is important to them. Having said that, how does the OPPO A92 perform here? Well, the 5,000mAh battery on this mid-range phone will readily give you a full day of heavy use without you being worried about running out of juice.

The battery capacity is large so it takes a bit of time to fully charge even with the 18-watt fast charging via USB-C supplied in the box. Took us around two and a half hours to get the phone from 5% to 100%.

Overall, the battery does an impressive job.

Software and performance

Software might not really be the top consideration for most smartphone buyers in Kenya, at least based on the messages flooding our inbox but I think it’s important that we mention something about the OPPO A92 software.

The phone runs on ColorOS 7.1 on top of Android 10. ColorOS 7.1, which is highly customizable and packs a number of OPPO’s native apps. From the system navigation to neat and amazing features, anyone who has used an OPPO device before should be able to find their way around this.

The OPPO A92 is also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in, expandable storage. The phone is fast and stable so there’s really nothing to complain about here.

Fingerprint sensor

The right side of the OPPO A92 has the power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader. As mentioned in our unboxing article, we have come to prefer this side-mounted fingerprint readers as they’re easier to access and unlock your phone.

The fingerprint sensor is snappy and very reliable, same as the face unlock.

Should you buy the OPPO A92?

As we highlighted at the beginning of this article, the OPPO A92 brings some impressive specs. The design is eye-catching, we loved the large battery, great cameras and the performance is quite stable.

Other than the battery which drains really fast especially if you’re a heavy user, everything else works just fine. The A92 definitely deserves your consideration.
